Databases

Use the Articles & more tab in Library Search to find articles on your topic. For more precise searching try some of the following databases.

Health databases

  • Medline
Major database for medicine and health journal articles. Alternatively use PubMed or Scopus as these cover the same journals as Medline but offer different features eg PubMed has 'Related articles' and often suggests additional searches and it has very recent articles, Scopus has 'cited by' links.
  • MEDLINE/PubMed Search & Electronic Health Record Information Resources
Automatic search of PubMed plus links to other relevant websites

Business databases

  • ABI Inform
A comprehensive business database and includes articles on information management from both trade magazines and 'academic' journals. The other major business database is Business Source Premier
  • Emerald Management Xtra
Covers information management. All articles are peer reviewed.

Computer science databases

  • ACM Digital Library
articles published in Association for Computing Machinery journals, magazines and conference proceedings
  • Gartner Group Intraweb
Market research reports on trends, market research and new technologies.
  • IEEE Xplore
has nearly one third of the world's current literature in electrical engineering, electronics and computer science. Completely full text and includes many conference papers

Many topics databases

  • ScienceDirect
Includes journals and books. The 'All Sources' search option is usually best.
  • Scopus
Has 'cited by' links. Indexes the Healthcare and Informatics Review Online journal. Includes the contents of Medline and Embase.
  • Web of Knowledge
Run your search simultaneously through a number of databases in this portal or choose Web of Science, a database within the Web of Knowledge
  • Google Scholar
Has 'cited by' links. For NGO websites, policy documents, working papers etc use Google.
