Course description Top of page

This course examines the changing international relations in Asia Pacific. It consists of five major parts. Part I is an introduction to the history of Asia-Pacific. Part II examines great powers in the region, including China, Japan, Russia and the United States. Part III looks at smaller players, including the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), Australia, New Zealand and Pacific Islands. Part IV investigates regional cooperation whereas Part V discusses some challenging issues in the region, such as the rise of China, the South China Sea disputes, the North Korea issue and the Taiwan issue.
