Information Literacy 
This course seeks to enhance the information literacy of students. According to the University of Auckland information literacy policy, information literacy is the set of intellectual capabilities, knowledge, and skills needed to use information and the ability to continue to develop these skills into the future. Through research and reading related to assignments, through document analysis and essay writing in History 355, students will hone their skills in finding, critically evaluating, and managing information. Through engagement with the concept of history, lectures, tutorials and readings relating to nineteenth-century Maori economic history, students in History 355 will apply a variety of information sources, including the most recent historiography, to create new understandings of the past.
