In addition to the course textbook, students seeking further background information may find the following helpful for several of the topics discussed.
Your course guide has a list of readings for the second essay. Books in the Short Loan Collection and electronic readings for this course are available by searching Readings & Exams. You can also find the references in Library Search. Books Look for the title of the book in The Catalogue. Brundage, J.A., Sex, Law and Marriage in the Middle Ages, Aldershot, 1993. Chapters Not all books have chapter headings listed in The Catalogue, so it is better to look for the title of the book. Brown, P., 'Bodies and Minds: Sexuality and Renunciation in Early Christianity', in K.M. Phillips and B. Reay, eds, Sexualities in History: a Reader, New York, 2002, pp.129–140. Articles Look for the journal. The catalogue will give you links to the ejournal or the location of the print journal. If there are several links to ejournals, choose one that includes the year of the specific article you want. Clark, E.A., 'Antifamilial Tendencies in Ancient Christianity', Journal of the History of Sexuality, 5, 1995, pp.356–380.
The Library's reference books are a great place to begin work on your essays and assignments. You should then go on to read more in-depth journal articles and books.
