Most items in the Short Loan Collection are set texts for course reading.

To find items in the Short Loan Collection, click the Readings tab in Library Search. On the next screen click on the pull down arrow next to the Course search box, and highlight the course name, ENGLISH 230. Click Search.

Dictionary of Literary Biography Online - fully searchable collection. Search by keyword or named author, by selecting from the pull down menu in the first seach screen. Typically each author/topic is covered by an extended essay covering background, criticism, commentary, and a list of further reading. Photographs are usually included. Each article can be re-formatted for reading, and e-mailed/printed/downloaded.

ABELL+FT - indexes articles in scholarly journals, chapters in books, and books. Covers film as well as literature and critical theory.

Literary Encylopedia - a full text reference work on authors and texts with information on their cultural context. The Glossary and Stylebook links are useful for this course.

Literary Theory - A full-text collection of works which have had a significant bearing on English and American traditions of theory and criticism, or which have influenced contemporary theoretical debate in the English-speaking world, from Plato to the present. Includes  The Concise Oxford Dictionary of Literary Terms and Literary Theory.

MLA International Bibliography  - the major resource for research in English language and literature. It indexes articles in scholarly journals, chapters in books, books and websites. It also overs film and cultural studies as well as critical theory.

Search Tip: You can also use the Articles & More link in Library Search. To ensure the articles meet academic requirements, click Peer-Reviewed Journals in the left hand panel of the results screen. You can continue to refine the search further using this panel, e.g. by date, format, online, from the options provided.
