Dictionary of Literary Biography Online - fully searchable collection. Search by keyword or named author, by selecting from the pull down menu in the first seach screen. Typically each author/topic is covered by an extended essay covering background, criticism, commentary, and a list of further reading. Photographs are usually included. Each article can be re-formatted for reading, and e-mailed/printed/downloaded.

Cambridge Companions
The Cambridge Companions series has several titles of relevance to this course. All titles are available in print, but also online via the Cambridge Collections Online database. Blackwell Reference Online is a collection of text searchable e-books. Click the red SEARCH link in the right of the home page. Type the author's name in the search box, and from the options below, mark Full Text and Adjacency [exact match]. Results display the chapter and work in which the author's name appears. Click the title to see the full text. Search terms are highlighted in yellow within the text. Further reading is given at the end of the chapter, and also information on how to cite the reference in your assignment. The left hand side panel shows the other chapters in the book.

Search Tip: You can also use the Articles & More link in Library Search. To ensure the articles meet academic requirements, click Peer-Reviewed Journals in the left hand panel of the results screen. You can continue to refine the search further using this panel, e.g. by date, format, online, from the options provided.

MLA International Bibliography - use the Author as Subject search box to type the author's name, e.g. Atwood Margaret, or the Author's Work search box to type in the name of a text, e.g. Surfacing.

Index New Zealand - INNZ - use the keyword search box to type in the name of the text, enclosed by quotation marks " ". To check Library holdings, search Voyager using the title of the periodical or newspaper as a Serial Title search.

Literature Resource Center - select the Title search option, and type in the name of the text that you are researching [omit "the" at the start of the title]. Click the Exact Title button. Some results may be displayed under the Biographies tab. Also click the Literary Criticism, Articles, and Work Overviews tabs for futher results. Not all texts are represented in this database.
